President to inaugurate global meet in Bihar

Patna, Jan 19: President A P J Abdul Kalam will today inaugurate the three-day ''Global Meet for a Resurgent Bihar'', expected to boost the economic development of the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi told newspersons here yesterday that the meet will be attended by NRIs and several other dignitaries.

He said NRIs from ten different countries had consented to participate in the meet, organised jointly by Institute for Human Development and bihartimes.com.

''The state government has extended whole-hearted support to the meet,'' he said, adding the event was aimed at furthering development of the state.

Mr Modi clarified that the event was not going to be an ''investors' meet'' but aims to involve policy makers in evolving comprehensive framework for the development of the state.

Apart from Dr Kalam, several distinguished scholars, including Profesor Emeritus London School of Economics and Political Science Meghnad Desai, Chairman ITC Shanta Devarajan and Director, International Institute for Labour Studies Geneva Dr Gerry Rodgers would attend the meet.

Land reforms to eradicate poverty: Prof Vyas
