Indian intellectual property owners' association mooted

Bangalore, Jan 18 (UNI) The time has come to form an Indian Intellectual Property Owners' Association under the auspices of the Confederation of Indian Industry, to leverage intangible assets for competing in the global arena, Dr Raj S Dave, Manager of India Project, The George Washington University Law School, said today.

His remarks at the session on Leveraging Intangible Assets for Global Competitiveness at the CII Partnership Summit was welcomed by experts at the session who pointed out that such an Association could provide a unified platform in India to share best practices in corporate management of intellectual property. It could also work with companies outside India and spread awareness among the legal community and the judiciary so that capacities were enhanced in settling intellectual property disputes.

Professor Susan Karamanian, Associate Dean for International and Comparative Legal Studies of the School, said there was a need to foster a culture of awareness on intellectual property law in India.

Session Chair Prof Martin J Adelman of the School said India had made the right moves in protecting intangible assets by amending its patent laws.
