Sugar slightly up in Kolhapur market

Kolhapur, Jan 4 (UNI) The prices of M-30 and S-30 grades of sugar today went slightly up by Rs five per quintal to Rs 1,470/1,475 and Rs 1,460/1,465 per quintal respectively.

The rates in the Kolhapur gur market ranged between Rs 1,300 and Rs 1,800 per quintal.

There was no trading in the Sangli turmeric futures market while turmeric spot rate remained unchanged to Rs 2,200 per quintal.

Chandigarh, Oct 30: The Punjab Cabinet today gave a green signal to impose four per cent entry tax on sugar imported from outside the state. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here. The move is aimed at safeguarding the interest of local sugar industries. They felt that a sweet taste could prompt the body to prepare for a large intake of calories.
