RTC employees, CPI, AITUC activists stage protest

Tirupati, Jan 4 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation staff, CPI and All India Trade Union Congress activists today staged a dharna in front of the RTC Regional Office here protesting against government's decision to close loss making depots in the state.

The acivists were led by RTC Employees Regional Secretary Jayaprakash, AITUC District General Secretary N Raja Reddy and CPI Town Secretary Penchalaiah.

They alleged the management had closed down the B Kothakota depot though it was making profits.

They alleged the Pulivendala depot, under the Chief Minister's constituency, was not closed though it was running on loss.

They demanded that the management revitalise the depots as it would lead to unemployment.

Tripura gets highest devpt target in 10th plan

Agartala, May 10: Tripura has surpassed five other Northeastern states in terms of development during Tenth Five Year Plan. According to Planning Commission's data, besides Tripura, Sikkim and Nagaland have also scored better and the performance of other NE states -- Asom, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur and Arunachal, was not up to expection. Justifying the performance report, Northeast Council's officials stated that it was possible only because of judicious use of funds and exceptional growth.....
