RTC employees, CPI, AITUC activists stage protest

Tirupati, Jan 4 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation staff, CPI and All India Trade Union Congress activists today staged a dharna in front of the RTC Regional Office here protesting against government's decision to close loss making depots in the state.

The acivists were led by RTC Employees Regional Secretary Jayaprakash, AITUC District General Secretary N Raja Reddy and CPI Town Secretary Penchalaiah.

They alleged the management had closed down the B Kothakota depot though it was making profits.

They alleged the Pulivendala depot, under the Chief Minister's constituency, was not closed though it was running on loss.

They demanded that the management revitalise the depots as it would lead to unemployment.

New Delhi, Dec 13: The CPI(M) today asked the countrymen to avoid travel on railways and other public transport tomorrow in view of its All-India General Strike to press for acceptance of the Left's 16-point charter of demands, including legislation to provide social security for the country's 370 million unorganised workers. Besides the four Left parties, other non-BJP, non-Congress parties including the SP, RJD, TDP, DMK and BSP will also support the strike, CPI(M)'s Lok.....

Tripura gets highest devpt target in 10th plan

Agartala, May 10: Tripura has surpassed five other Northeastern states in terms of development during Tenth Five Year Plan. According to Planning Commission's data, besides Tripura, Sikkim and Nagaland have also scored better and the performance of other NE states -- Asom, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur and Arunachal, was not up to expection.
