police constable trapped by ACB

Mumbai, Jan 4 (UNI) A police constable, attached to Crime Branch unit-VIII, has been trapped by Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting a bribe of Rs 35,000 from a criminal at Andheri in North-west Mumbai.

ACB official sources said here today that constable Mahendra More had allegedly demanded Rs one lakh from a person, who had a criminal background. The complainant had undergone a prison term in a robbery case and currently he is on bail in some other case.

More used to threaten him that he will booked him in a false case and put him behind bars, if he failed to pay him Rs one lakh. Out of that amount he (Complainant) had already paid Rs 65,000 to him and while paying balance amount yesterday he was trapped by the ACB sleuths near his office at Andheri.

He was produced before Additional Session Court Judge P N Deshmukh, who remanded him to police custody till tomorrow.
