Mohun Bagan arrives in Bangalore, to take on HAL

Bangalore, Jan 4 (UNI) Fresh from their title winning effort in the Federation Cup last week, former champions Mohun Bagan arrived in the city today to clash with HAL Sports Club in their first match on January six in their quest to regain the National Football League.

Physical trainer-turned-coach Robson Mattos De Olivera put the star-studded Mohun Bagan players through some physical exercises at the Bangalore District Football Association stadium.

Despite four players sitting out owing to injury, three times champion Mohun Bagan looked formidable with Bhaichung Bhutia and Jose Ramirez Baretto spearheading the attack.

Team Manager Joy Kandu said Robson, coaching the team on a temporary basis, was impressive in honing the skills of the players and helped them to win the Federation Cup. ''We are looking for a new coach, but it is still some time away as we have not zeroed in on any particular name,'' the team manager added.

Italy, Spain claim first judo titles

Sydney: Giuseppe Maddaloni of Italy and Isabel Fernandez of Spain claimed their first Olympic judo titles on Monday in a third day of competition dominated by a series of upsets in the men's division. Maddaloni, a double European champion, charmed the crowd by doing a forward flip after his victory in the men's 73kg category against the 18-year-old Brazilian sensation, Tiago Camillo.As one favourite after another fell by the wayside, Maddaloni, who had been a little out of sorts.....
