Indore: Management course for Defence officers

Indore, Jan 4: To assist the defence personnel acquire extra skills to help them join the corporate sector after retirement, the Indian Institute of Management -Indore has introduced a novel six-month management course for defence officers from the new year.

The Post Graduate Certificate Programme in Management is meant for the defence officers who have just retired or are going to retire shortly.

In order to maintain a youthful profile of the armed forces, approximately 60,000 service personnel are retired/ released every year at a comparatively young age, which necessitates their taking up of a second occupation. The Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR) looks after all matters connected with the resettlement and welfare of ex-servicemen and their dependants.

The programme, which aims to help officers from the three defence services- Army, Air Force and Navy- to re-deploy them in civil life after retirement, has been designed by IIM-I at the instance of the DGR.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony. Dr S P Parashar, Director IIM-Indore, emphasized that with the vital ingredients of focussed dedication and disciplined approach for analytical problem solving in real life situations under constraints and pressures, the corporate world immensely benefit from the gruelling curriculum under the expert guidance of the finest faculty who would prepare the participants to meet the challenges in the area of operations, finance, marketing, IT, project management, logistics and supply chain mangement and the crucial utilization of human capital.

Maj Gen G S Aulakh, Officiating Commander and Chief Instructor of MCTE, Mhow, who inaugurated the programme. termed it as a second inning in the career of defence officers. He advised the participants to set goals and stay focussed towards it through right attitude and committed hard work.

Pak Navy to acquire early warning aircraft and UAVs

Karachi, Jan 30 (ANI): Pakistan's Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Noman Bashir has said that the navy will soon acquire Airborne Early Warning (AEW) aircraft and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to strengthen its air fleet.Speaking on Thursday at a ceremony marking the induction of a Fokker aircraft and commissioning of the T-56 Engine Test Bench at the Pakistan Navy Aviation Base, PNS Mehran, Admiral Bashir described the induction of Z-9 helicopters, AEWs, UAVs and P-3Cs as a "force multiplier".....
