Maharashtra Govt signs MoU with Dailmer Chrysler

Mumbai, Jan 4 (UNI) The Maharashtra government and Daimler Chrysler India Private Limited today signed a memorandum of understading (MOU) to set-up Daimler Chrysler's new manufacturing facility in the Chakan MIDC area in Pune.

The MOU was signed by Industries secretary V K Jairath on behalf of the state government and Dr Wilfried Aulbur, managing director and CEO of Daimler Chrysler India. Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh was also present on the occasion.

The car production is expected to start in 2009 with at least 5,000 units per year.

The plant will produce the Mercedes-Benz S-class, E-class and C-class for the Indian market.

Among the representatives from Daimler Chrysler were Dr Thomas Weber, member of Board, Dr Bharat Balasubramanian, vice president and Mr Aulbur.

Daimler Chrysler is the pioneer of the luxury car segment in India and has already completed 11 successful years in the country.

The company has well established customer relationship and production processes and has won the quality awards for the ''Best Mercedes-Benz manufacturing plant outside Germany'' five times during the last 11 years in India.

Daimler-Chrysler was also the first auto company to complete ISO 9001: 2000 certification for its entire dealer network in India.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Deshmukh said from June 2005, 34 mega projects have come to Maharashtra with an investment of Rs 35,000 crore. Many major auto companies have entered in Maharashtra, particularly in the vicinity of Pune, which has become the automobile hub, he added.

US Senate rejects auto industry bailout bill

Washington, Dec 12: US Senate on Thursday, Dec 11 rejected a proposal to bailout the auto industry from being hit by the on going global economic crisis. The Democratic plan to extend $14 billion in loans to Detroit faltered when supporters failed to get enough support in a procedural vote.White spokesman Tony Fratto said, "It's disappointing that Congress failed to act tonight. We will evaluate our options in light of the breakdown in Congress." But he refused to.....
