Harassment by in-laws drove her to suicide: father

Shimla, Jan 4 (UNI) The father of the girl, who committed suicide by jumping from a bridge here alleged that her in-laws were harassing his daughter for more dowry.

In an FIR lodged with the police here yesterday, he alleged that her daughter's in-laws demand for two lakh rupees dowry drove her to jump from the bridge.

Ms Kanika Sood was being ill treated by her in-laws immediately after her marriage and started demanding dowry and other valuables from time to time, he said in his report.

He said his daughter left house at about 1630 hrs on Tuesday, saying that she was going to a temple and jumped from the bridge half an hour later at about 1700 hrs.

Meanwhile, police sources said a case has been registered against the girl's in-laws under sections 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and investigations were on.
