Cong begins poll campaigning in Uttarakhand

New Delhi, Jan 4 (UNI) The Congress has begun its campaigning in right earnest for the February 21 Assembly elections to be held in its party-ruled state of Uttarakhand.

The party will be contesting all the 70 seats in the Assembly elections, according to AICC Treasurer and Incharge of Uttarakhand Moti Lal Vora.

In a chat with media persons here, he said Congress President Sonia Gandhi was likely to address three public meetings at three places on different dates in the state after the process of withdrawal of nominations was over on February 5. Her final tour programme was being chalked out.

He had personally visited the State thrice lately while PCC President Harish Rawat too was on the campaign trail. He found the response of the people to the party's election meetings encouraging.

The Pradesh Congress Committee had been told to forward the names of candidates by the end of this month to the AICC.

The Pradesh Election Committee and the Manifesto Committee would be formed after Congress President Sonia Gandhi's return to Delhi from Kerala by tomorrow, he said.

Mr Vora said the Congress would contest the Assembly elections on the issue of development and employment to the local people in the developmental works.
