Campaigning gains momentum in view of nearing elections

Imphal, Jan 4 (UNI) Political parties have started hectic campaigning in view of the up coming ninth assembly elections in Manipur in February.

Sources in the political circles said new political alignments were also taking place.

The Manipur Democratic Peoples' Party has been formed by a group of former BJP members. They also announced that their party has merged with the Manipur State Congress Party.

Democratic Peoples' Party leader Y Mangi said the merger was effected to form a strong political party.

Meanwhile, the Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) was preparing to announce the list of candidates for the coming elections.

The political parties have also started home campaigns to woo the voters.
