Ajay Singh not in race for MP CM

Indore, Jan 4 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Agriculture Kantilal Bhuria and MLA Ajay Singh -- both Congress leaders -- today said that it was early yet to talk of the race for Madhya Pradesh's chief ministership and added that everyone concerned was working towards strengthening the party organisation.

''Erroneous reports quoted All India Congress Committee General Secretary Digvijay Singh as saying that I was a claimant for the chief minister's post. Mr Singh made no such statement,'' Mr Ajay Singh told reporters.

Responding to a question about a tribal chief minister for Madhya Pradesh, Mr Bhuria said that the (2008) assembly election was still distant.

''There is no discussion on removing the party's Madhya Pradesh unit supremo Subhash Yadav,'' he added.

Alleging irregularities in the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Mr Bhuria said that about 50 per cent of funds were being misused.

''Despite the Scheme's implementation, two to three lakh persons are part of an employment-linked exodus from Jhabua district. The Centre allotted adequate fertiliser in accordance with Madhya Pradesh's demand but the state did not lift it,'' he added.
