6 drown as boat capsizes in UP

Chitrakoot, UP, Jan 4 (UNI) At least six people were killed after their boat capsized in river Yamuna here this morning.

The accident occurred a day after a similar boat tragedy in river Gomti at Lucknow claimed nine lives.

Police said 18 people were travelling in a boat from village Kopa to neighbouring Kaushambhi district, when the incident took place.

Four people, including the boatman and two women managed to swim to the shore.

Efforts were on to recover the bodies.

''Although, we have so far not recovered any body, it is feared that six people have died,'' Police Superintendent N Ravindra said.

Baghdad, Dec 30: A US soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in Baghdad, the US military said today, bringing the number of US military deaths in Iraq since the beginning of the war to at least 2,996. Earlier, the US military reported the deaths of three US marines from wounds suffered in combat in Iraq's western Anbar province.Reuters.....

Bihar; 40 feared killed as bus falls into Ganga

Hajipur (Bihar), Dec 30: At least 40 people were feared killed when a private bus jumped the rallings of Mahatma Gandhi Setu over the Ganga and plunged into the river early today.
