Jalandhar, Jan 1 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) today urged the Election Commission to transfer Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) S S Virk and some of his fellow officers from their posts to ensure free and fair Assembly elections in the state.
Addressing a press conference here, SAD General Secretary and former union minister Sukhbir Singh Badal alleged that Mr Virk and some of his fellow officers had been working for the ruling party and free and fair elections were not possible under their supervision.
He said his party would submit a formal representation to the Election Commission during its visit to the state soon.
Mr Badal reiterated the demand of deployment of central forces for the February 13 Assembly elections.
Mr Badal cautioned the Deputy Commissioners(DCs) and other officers not to commit legal or back dated orders or payments at the behest of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh in violation of the model code of conduct effective in the state.
