In his message, Mr Mithi said the dawn of a new year signals the ushering in of a fresh year of hope, optimism, expectation and renewed pledge of promises and commitments.
Wishing the people 'a happy and prosperous New year,' Mr Mithi said may the new year brings peace, progress, prosperity and happiness in each and every homes in the Union Territory.
Mr Rangasamy said everybody should take a pledge to safeguard the unity and integrity of the country and root out any form of violence from the soil.
Puducherry was marching ahead in developments, protecting the people from poverty and diseases. The percapita income in the Union Territory had increased considerably, he said adding that he was committed to ensure the development of Puducherry by providing a clean and transparent governance.
Cabinet colleagues of Mr Rangasamy, Speaker R Radhakrishnan, AICC General Secretary V Narayansamy, PCC President P Shanmugham and leaders of several political parties also greeted the people.
