Akali Dal PAC meets in Chandigarh on Saturday

Jalandhar, Dec 29 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) political affairs committee(PAC) will review its preparedness for the coming assembly election and discuss other poll related issues at its meeting to be held in Chandigarh tomorrow.

The meeting which will be presided over by the party president and former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal is also likely to discuss the names of the party candidates but the final decision in this regard is likely to be left for the party chief party spokesman told UNI today.

Meanwhile, the meeting of the party manifesto committee which was scheduled to be held under chairmanship of former Union Minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, on January 7 for working out final draft of the party manifesto is also likely, to be re-scheduled on some earlier date following the declaration of election schedule, he said.

Three get life term in Banka

Banka, Dec 29 (UNI) A local court today awarded life imprisonment to three people in connection with a murder case. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 5000 each to all convicts. According to an FIR, the convicts had stabbed to death one Narottam Mandal on November 14, 1993 at Fatehpur village under Amarpur police station in Banka district. Guwahati, Dec 29 (UNI) The Special Court of the CBI here today awarded jail terms to six of the accused in the Rs 400 crore LoC scam that rocked Assam State Veterinary Department in 1991-92 and was unearthed in 1993.
