India offers to bring peace in the world: Ravishankar

Bangalore, Dec 27: The Founder of the Art of Loving Foundation Sri Ravishankar Guruji has called for bringing to an end Naxalism and Communalism which were threatening peace and spirit of brotherhood in the country .

Delivering the inaugural address at the four-day 51st National Convention of the Junior Chamber International tonight the Pontiff said instead of hatred and violence love and compassion needs to be spread.

The Foundation Chief said the enthusiasm among people should always be active as it only helps in achieving the goal in life. The glory of spirituality in the country has a lot to offer to the world which was threatened by disunity and violence, he said.

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former union minister Venkaiah Naidu said the country was in the process of reinventing its glory, hence, the entire world looking towards it.

However, Mr Naidu said over 220,000 villages were deprived of good roads and lacked basic amenities which was not a good sign.

Pentagon says to send 3,500 troops to Kuwait

WASHINGTON, Dec 27 (Reuters) The Pentagon said today it will send about 3,500 troops to Kuwait to serve as a standby force for use in Iraq or elsewhere in the region. The Bush administration is weighing force increases as it considers alternative strategies in Iraq. Russia links YUKOS boss to Litvinenko murder

MOSCOW, Dec 27 (Reuters) Russia's Prosecutor-General said today Leonid Nevzlin, former manager of the bankrupt YUKOS oil firm, could have ordered the poisoning of former Russian agent Alexander Litvinenko. ''A version is being looked at that those who ordered these crimes could be the same people who are on an international wanted list for serious and very serious crimes, one of whom is ... US signals support for Ethiopia in Somalia

WASHINGTON, Dec 27 (Reuters) The United States today signaled support for Ethiopia's military offensive in Somalia, saying Addis Ababa had reasons for concern about the country's internal warfare. The White House urged restraint by Ethiopia but also said the intervention should not be used as an excuse by Somalia's warring factions to avoid peace negotiations. ''Ethiopia has genuine security concerns with regard to developments within Somalia,'' said Gordon Johndroe, spokesman for the White House National.....
