Woman cadre of ULFA held, new recruit surrenders

Guwahati, Dec 26 (UNI) A woman cadre of ULFA was arrested, while a new recruit of the same outfit surrendered in separate incidents in Upper Asom today.

Both were from the 28th battalion, the main strike force of the outfit.

'Corporal' Karobi Phukan alias Bandita Phukan was arrested by Sonari police from a bus at Teok Ghat when she was on her way to Sonari from Namrup.

Suspected to be involved in the recent blasts in Sibsagar district and extortion drives of the ULFA, incriminating documents were seized from her.

Meanwhile, a 'private' of the 28th battalion Biplab Barua alias Puwali surrendered before the Army in Tinsukia district.

He was a new cadre of the outfit and laid down two Chinese grenades.

BHU junior doctors strike work over lathicharge on medicos

Varanasi, Dec 26 (UNI) Medical services at the Sir Sunderlal Hospital in the Banaras Hindu University (SSU-BHU) here today were affected, following a token strike by junior doctors against the last evening lathicharge of medical students on the central university campus. ''The Outdoor Patients services remained paralysed owing to the strike by resident doctors. 52 flights took 10,656 J

Srinagar, Dec 26 (UNI) A total of 52 special flights carried a record number of 10,656 Haj pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir to Jeddah this year. The departure of pilgrims had started from here on November 22 and concluded yesterday with one day break on December 23 as the aircraft had developed technical snag on its way back from Jeddah and was grounded at the Dubai airport.
