West Bengal IGP injured, family killed in accident

Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Dec 26 (UNI) Three people, including the wife and daughter of West Bengal Inspector General of Police (IGP) S C Mondal were killed, when their car collided with a state-owned transport corporation bus at Sivarakkottai Village, under Thirumangalam Police limits here today.

Madurai Superintendent of Police T S Anbu told UNI that IGP S C Mondal(58), his wife Lakshmi Mondal(52) and daughter Surleka Mondal(15) were on their way to Madurai from Kanyakumari when the accident occurred.

While Surleka Mondal died on the spot, Lakshmi Mondal succumbed to her injuries at Apollo Hospitals here and the driver Mohammed Ali (28) on the way to the hospital.

The condition of S C Mondal was said to be stable, Mr Anbu added.

Hundreds killed in Lagos fuel blast

LAGOS, Dec 26 (Reuters) Hundreds of people were burned alive today when fuel from a vandalised pipeline exploded in Nigeria's largest city, Lagos, emergency workers said.
