Vaiko angry with MDMK rebel for praising Karunanidhi

Chennai, Dec 26 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today said rebel MDMK leader L Ganesan had angered his party's high command for praising him in Parliament on the reservation issue.

In an epistle to partymen, Mr Karunanidhi said Mr Ganesan was victimised for having said in Parliament that it was only during the DMK regime in 1989 that exclusive 20 per cent reservation was provided for backward classes, though PMK founder leader Dr S Ramadoss had launched an agitation during the previous MGR regime.

For having revealed this historic fact, he was denied permission to take part in the padayatra undertaken by his leader (Mr Vaiko) and finally removed as MDMK Presidium Chairman, Mr Karunanidhi said.

He also recalled how, Mr Vaiko, after breaking away from the DMK in 1993, vowed to capture Anna Arivalayam and the party symbol 'Rising Sun'.

Mr Vaiko, who had openly declared that the late Murasoli Maran was his mentor in the Rajya Sabha, later criticised the installation of the late leader's statue in the Parliament complex. When he pointed this out to a senior MDMK leader, the latter said his party leader was just echoing the views of AIADMK general secretary Ms Jayalalithaa.
