Undertrial dies in Ropar District Jail

Ropar, Dec 26 (UNI) An undertrial Sucha Ram died in Ropar District Jail here last evening.

Sucha Ram, who belonged to Jadla village in Nawanshahr district, was arrested in a case under the Excise Act and was brought to Ropar District Jail follwing a judicial remand on December 16.

Deputy Superintendent jail GS Sarowa today said Sucha Ram was poppy husk addict and was very weak. His health deteriorated in the jail around 1800 hrs last evening and he got unconscious.

He was immediately rushed to local civil hospital where he was declared brought dead, he added.

He said ever since Sucha Ram had arrived in the jail he used to demand poppy husk and was undergoing treatment from the civil hospital.

His body was handed over to his family after post mortem which was conducted at the civil hospital.

Civil Surgeon S P Sharma said Sucha Ram's viscera was sent for chemical Examination.

It is the second incident of death of an undertrial in the District Jail during the past three months.

Hyderabad, Dec 26 (UNI) TDP Legislature Party Deputy Leader Nagam Janardhana Reddy today challenged Andhra Pradesh Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah to file a defamation case against him if his allegations on illegal land acquisition for the hatchery owned by Mr Lakshmaiah were proved wrong. MDMK expels District Secretry for anti-party activities

Chennai, Dec 26 (UNI) Marumalarchi DMK(MDMK) Tiruvarur District Secretary K S S Thayagabari was today expelled from the party for his alleged anti-party activities.
