Three tribal children burnt alive

Baripada, Dec 26 (UNI) Three tribal children were burnt alive in a fire in Jhumkapal village under Raruan block of Mayurbhanj district.

Police today said the children were playing near a heap of haystacks when the accident took place yesterday.

The victims were identified as Lipu(4) Anand(4) and Abhi (3) official sources said.

Although the exact cause of the fire was not known, unconfirmed reports said the dry straw heaps got ignited when the children were playing with a matchstick.

By the time the fire brigade arrived from Karanjia, theie bodies were charred.

Mayurbhanj District Collector V Kartikeya Pandian had sanctioned a sum of Rs two thousand as an ex-gratia assistance to each of the three bereaved families. The Collector said further assistance, if necessary, would be provided as per the relief code.

Full tsunami warning system by Sep '07: Sibal

New Delhi, Dec 26 (UNI) A world-class tsunami warning system will be installed by September next year that will give warning of the tidal waves within 20 minutes of the occurence of a quake, Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal said today. Three killed, five injured in road accident

Faizabad, Dec 26 (UNI) Three people were killed and five others injured in on accident here today. Police said a jeep on way to Ambedkar Nagar rammed into a tree on the Faizabad-Ambedkar Nagar highway under Gosainganj police station area. Srinagar, Dec 26 (UNI) A few weeks ago, a bear was burnt alive by an irate mob of 4000 people in Tral area of Pulwama district, but today Kashmiris displayed care and compassion towards animals when they freed a dog trapped in an iron fence after several hours of rescue operation.
