Thailand remembers tsunami victims

Bangkok, Dec 26: Thailand's southern coastal resort provincestoday held special ceremonies in memory of the victims of Asia's worstnatural disaster which claimed nearly a quarter of a million lives twoyears ago this day.

Relatives of the deceased, including foreigners, took part inBuddhist religious prayers at the country's most popular touristdestination, Phuket which was one of the worst hit by the December 26,2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

More than 5,000 people were officially estimated to have beenkilled by the tsunami in Thailand's southern coastal provinces alongthe Andaman Sea. Many of the victims were West European tourists.

The victims' kin offered food to monks and placed wreaths at theWall of Remembrance in Phuket's Mai Khao beach. Some 99 Buddhist monkschanted prayers at the resort's famous Patong beach.

Memorial services were also held at Ban Nam Khem village and KhaoLak in adjoining Phang-nga province which suffered the maximumdevastation.

The Thai king's eldest daughter Princess Ubolratana, who lost heronly son to the tsunami, is to preside over the main official memorialceremony in the evening to be held in Phang-nga.

Marg Const to raise Rs 300cr in overseas markets

New Delhi, Dec 26: Marg Constructions Ltd today said it will raise Rs 300 crore through issue of securities in overseas markets. The company's board has accorded its approval to the fund raising scheme through issue of Global Depository Receipts (GDR), Foreign Currency Convertible Bonds (FCCB) or Qualified Institution Placement. Yashraj Containeurs bags Rs 20 cr Indian Oil order

New Delhi, Dec 26 (UNI) Yashraj Containeurs Ltd today said it has secured an order worth Rs 20 crore from Indian Oil Corporation Ltd for supply of metal barrels. The order will be consumed largely by the company's Asaoti installation, followed by Silvassa Installation, it said in a statement. Rupee opens lower at 44.60/62 against US dollar

Mumbai, Dec 26 (UNI) The Rupee today opened lower by four paise and was quoted at 44.60/52 per US dollar against the previous day's close of 44.56/57 per USD, dealers said. Later, the Rupee rose at 44.46/47 on account of short-covering by local operators. The current price is again quoted low at 44.58/60, registering a modest loss of two paise from its last close, due to fresh selling pressure of the dollar, resorted to by.....
