Ryots block road in Puducheery

Puducherry, Dec 26 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Thattanchavady when 1000-odd agriculturists suddenly blocked the road near the regulatory market to protest against the delay in the provision of enhanced incentive for paddy.

The agricuturists gathered at the regulatory market which reopened after two days holiday to get the Rs 50 per quintal of paddy announced earlier as enhanced incentive.

Since, they have to comply with the formalities of showing their identity cards and the receipt for supplying paddy at the regulatory market, the staffs took more time to clear the formalities of each person. Protesting against the "undue delay," they resorted to a road blockade in front of the market disrupting vehicular traffic.

Police held discussions with them. But as they refused to clear the road, police removed them.
