Rise in temperature keeps biting winters at bay

Lucknow, Dec 26 (UNI) A rise in temperature coupled with the sunshine in Uttar Pradesh has led to mild winter.

Mercury hovered above normal in Jhansi and Lucknow divisions, the Met office told UNI here today.

However, a slight plunge in night temperature was recorded in Gorakhpur, Allahabad, Kanpur and Faizabad divisions.

Sultanpur at 5 degrees Celsius -- 4 degrees below normal -- was the coldest place in the state. The state capital recorded 7.6 degree C, which was one degree above normal.

During the last 24 hrs, 6.1 degrees Celsius was recorded in Allahabad, followed by 6.8 in Varanasi and 6.6 degree in Kanpur.

Meanwhile, the continuous rise and fall in temperature is posing health problems for the people.

The weatherman has forecast mainly a clear sky with fog blanket during the early and late hrs.

SAD demands high level probe against Sainik Welfare Director

Chandigarh, Dec 26 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today condemned Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for appointing Brig (retd) J S Jaswal, against whom a war widow has lodged a complaint of sexual harassment with the National Commission for Women, as Director, Sainik welfare.
