Cuttack, Dec 26 (UNI) Shib Sundar Das sent the record books tumbling today by scoring a career-best triple century (300 not out) against a hapless Jammu and Kashmir on the second day of the their Ranji trophy match at the Barbati Stadium here today.
Orissa amassed 552 for seven before declaring the innings and claiming two Jammu Kashmir wicket at close of play.
Das who had a lean trot this season and was on the verge of being dropped, silenced his detractors with a superb innings today. His 300 not out was the highest ever scored by any Orissa player in Ranji trophy match.
Resuming his overnight score of 126, Das scored freely on a dead batting track. His triple century had 40 hits to the fence all round the wicket and came off 364 balls.
He was ably supported by Prabhanjan Mallick and Rasmi Ranjan Parida as the Orissa batsmen sent Jammu Kashmir bowlers on a leather hunt.
Prabhanjan was out for 53 while Parida went on to score his century. Parida and Das put on a 200 run partnership for the fifth wicket before Parida returned to the pavilion scoring 101.
Das, however, continued to torment the Jammu and Kashmir bowlers before Orissa Captain declared the innings as soon as Das reached his triple century.
For Jammu and Kashmir Raman Dutta and Sameer Khajuria took three wickets each conceding 133 and 170 runs respectively.
With barely ten over of play remaining, the Jammu Kashmir batsmen walked in to trouble. They lost two wickets in quick succession for six runs. Sukanta Khatua and Sanjaya Satpathy claimed one wicket each.
