Only one nomination for civic poll in Nagpur on first day

Nagpur, Dec 26 (UNI) Only one candidate filed his papers on the first day today of nominations for the February 1 elections to the general body of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).

The lone nomination was filed by former deputy mayor Ashok Jeevandas Jain from ward number 63 (Mahaveer Ward), Municipal Superintendent Ravindra Pagey told UNI.

Mr Jain has filed his papers as a candidate of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Mr Pagey said.

A total of 1,154 sets of nomination papers were sold on the first day, he said.

The last date for filing of nominations is January 2, 2007.

The civic polls in Nagpur are being held along with other places in the state on February 1, 2007.

The nomination process follows a different schedule because of a provision for submission of appeals in the NMC Act. The tenure of the present general body of NMC ends on March 4, 2007.

95 units put to seal by MCD today

New Delhi, Dec 26 (UNI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) today put to seal 95 units in Central, Civil Lines and Najafgarh zones.
