Mazumdar takes lead at Sunfeast Junior Golf Championship

Bangalore, Dec 26 (UNI) Rommel Mazumdar fired the day's best score of 74 to lead the field in both A and B category of the Sunfeast All India Junior/Sub Junior Golf Championship, which teed-off at the par-71 Karnataka Golf Association here today.

He is followed by Rashid Khan and Divyanshu Bajaj in Category A, who both returned with a card of 75 each, while the duo of Saurabh Badhuri and Udayan Mane shared the fourth place at five over 76 each.

Seasoned juniors like Amanjyot Singh and favourite Rahul Bakshi found conditions extremely tough and managed horrible rounds of eight over and nine over respectively. The Sri Lankan duo of Sanjay Wettimling and Binupa Wijesinghe also struggled under tough conditions and managed rounds of 80 each.

In Category B, Mazumdar was three strokes ahead of Raghav Bhandari and Kapil Kumar, who both carded rounds of 77 each to grab the joint second place. Khalin Joshi was in fourth place after shooting a round of 78.

Mazumdar had birdies on the first and 11th but dropped shots on the third, fifth, seventh, 12th and 18th.

Scores (after 18 holes): Category A (15-17 yrs): 74 Rommel Mazumdar; 75 Rashid Khan, Divyanshu Bajaj; 76 Saurabh Bhaduri, Udayan Mane; 78 Kanishk Tulsyan; 79 Amanjyot Singh, Rudresh Pratap, Adarsh Mukherjee.

Category B (13-14 yrs): 74 Rommel Mazumdar; 77 Raghav Bhandari, Kapil Kumar; 78 Khalin Joshi; 79 Ali Akmal Jan Category C (11-12 yrs): 74 Ashbeer Saini, 75 Syed Saqib Ahmed; 78 Viraat Badhwar; 79 Pranav Mehra; 81 Ankur Chadha.

Category D (10 years and below) will tee off tomorrow for its first round. The participants in this category will play over 54 holes.

Up to 500 killed in Lagos fuel blast

LAGOS, Dec 26 (Reuters) Up to 500 people were burned alive today when fuel from a vandalised pipeline exploded in Nigeria's largest city, Lagos, emergency workers said. Police bust international drug racket, arrest six

New Delhi, Dec 26 (UNI) With the arrest of six people, including a Pakistani and two Nigerians, police have busted an international drug racket and seized 17.87 kg heroin. Vinay, Tejender, residents of Amritsar, Kalpesh, two Nigerian nationals Ebenezer and Kingsley, and Afzal from Lahore were arrested in various raids spanning several days, the police said.
