Marina Project to be revived: Minister

Kochi, Dec 26 (UNI) Kerala Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan today said the Government has taken steps to reivive the stalled Marina Project and has also earmarked Rs 30 crore for various development projects in the city.

Speaking to newspersons after a high-level meeting with officials here, Mr Balakrishnan said the project would be executed by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) without any private participation.

He said the project would be completed within an year.

The 50-crore project which was stalled due to various reasons, would provide berthing facilities for 60 yachts.

The Minister said Rs 30 crore was earmarked for various tourism development projects like backwater boat pier, felicitation centre, and Menaka Boat Jetty complex.

The Government would also upgrade the Bolgatty Palace and make it into an important tourist destination, he added.

Mr Balakrishnan, who is also the Home Minister, said proper security would be provided to bishops attending the All India Catholic Bishops' Conference from January four to nine.

Kashmir highway closed again due to snowfall

Srinagar, Dec 26 (UNI) The Kashmir valley was cut off again from the rest of the country after the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was closed due to fresh snowfall. Snowfall has also cut off the Keran with the Kashmir valley. A traffic police official told UNI that the highway, only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was closed this afternoon following fresh snowfall. The road has become slippery due to snowfall.....

Irregularities in distribution of Urea : Ansari

Patna, Dec 26 (UNI) National vice-president of Akhil Bhartiya Kisan Sabha and former MP Jalaluddin Ansari today alleged large scale bunglings and irregularities in distribution of urea fertiliser in Bihar. In a statement issued here, Mr Ansari said farmers were moving from pillar to post in quest for fertilisers while the state government continued to remain in deep slumber. ''If farmers do not get urea during Rabi crops season, they would have to suffer.....

Cong alleges innocents youthsslain in encounter

Jagdalpur, Dec 26 (UNI) The Congress has claimed that two tribal youths -- who hailed from Chhattisgarh's tribal-dominated, naxalism-affected Kanker district and were killed in the December 22 encounter at Gadchiroli in neighbouring Maharashtra -- were innocent. The deceased were identified as Pakhajoor's Sual and Renu, both aged 20. Former Congress MLA Manturam Pawar led irate villagers who gheraoed the Pakhajoor Police station yesterday.
