Manipur boys, girls in Sepak Takraw finals

Chandigarh, Dec 26 (UNI) Holders Manipur maintained their winning spree and entered the finals in both boy' and girls' sections in the team competitions of the 10th Junior National Sepak Takraw Championships here today.

In the boys semi-finals played at the St Joseph's School ground in Sector 44, Manipur displayed overall supremacy as they defeated Delhi by 2-0 (21-12 23-21 and 21-7 21-12) and Andhra Pradesh snuffed out the challenge of spirited Tamil Nadu whom they beat by 2-1.

In the girls semi-final matches, Manipur eliminated the challenge of Tamil Nadu 2-0 (21-19 12-21 15-11 and 21-11 21-8) and Orissa ousted Andhra Pradesh also by an identical score of 2-0 (21-15 21-15 and 21-14, 21-17).

Manipur boys will meet AP in the boys finals tomorrow, while in the girls section it will be Manipur versus Orissa.

Kaif rescues UP, Tamil Nadu score 325

Chennai, Dec 26 (UNI) Mohammed Kaif struck a strokeful half century to help defending champions Uttar Pradesh reach 204 for four at stumps on the opening day of the Elite Group A Ranji trophy cricket championship match against Tamil Nadu here today. Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 267 for eight, the home team managed to swell their score to 325 in 106.4 overs. Uttar Pradesh began their reply on a bad note losing opener.....

Powar and Kulkarni put Mumbai in commanding position against Gujarat

Mumbai, Dec 26 (UNI) Spinners Ramesh Powar and Nilesh Kulkarni struck telling blows at the fag end of the second day's play to leave Gujarat gasping at 118 for five in reply to the hosts 503 for seven declared at close of play on the second day of the four-day Ranji Trophy Elite division match at the Wankhede stadium here today. At close of play, opener Nilesh Modi was batting with 34 with Gujarat still.....

Bengal in driver's seat against Maharashtra in Ranji tie

Kolkata, Dec 26 (UNI) Bengal established a firm control over the match, reaching 199 for five today after destroying Maharashtra for 215 in the Ranji tie at the Eden Gardens. Bengal reached 199 for five with good starts from Arindam Das (37), Abhishek Jhunjhunwala(41) and A Chakraborty (27). But the players could not capitalise on the starts. Sanclecha claimed three wickets for 76 runs. At the end of the day Deep Dasgupta remained unbeaten on.....
