Light rains in Delhi, mercury rises to 7.4 deg C

New Delhi, Dec 26 (UNI) Light rains in Delhi today added to the chill in the capital, putting Delhiites 'in a freeze' for the third consecutive day.

The rain, coupled with cold Easterly winds, maintained a "chill in the Delhi air" even as the minimum temperature rose to 7.4 degree Celsius, from 6.9 degree C yesterday.

About 1 mm of rainfall was recorded till 1430 hours, the weatherman said.

Visibility, however, remained normal with levels in the morning remaining at 600 m which later rose to 800 m.

Weatherman attribute the rain to the influence of a fresh Western disturbance which caused light snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and isolated rainfall over West Rajasthan and Punjab during the past 24 hours.

Weatherman said the ongoing precipitation activity could continue for another 24 hours and added rain and snowfall, coupled with Northwesterly winds likely to prevail over Northwest India could lead to fall in night temperature by 3-4 degree C from December 28 onwards.

They have also forecast fog at some places in the morning hours.

In fact, though the minimum temperature is expected to rise to nine degree C tomorrow, the weatherman have predicted a fall in night temperature in the natinal capital to as low as five degree C on Friday and six degree C on Saturday.

The Weatherman have forecast a partly cloudy sky in the city during the next 24 hours with possibility of more light rains in some areas.
