IMFA receives "Nirtya Shree" award.

Bhubaneswar, Dec 26(UNI)Indian Metals&Ferro Alloys Limited(IMFA), India's largest producer of ferro alloys, was honoured with the prestigious 'Niryat Shree' award by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations(FIEO) at a glittering function in New Delhi today.

The award recognizes outstanding export performance by erstwhile Indian Charge Chrome Limited(ICCL) which has since merged with IMFA during the year 2004-05.

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath gave away the awards to IMFA Managing Director Subhrakant Panda.

In a statement, Mr Panda said ''we are truly honoured to have been chosen for this prestigious award and see it as vindication of our corporate philosophy of focusing on value addition''.

IMFA, largest producer&exporter of ferro alloys with 157 MVA installed furnace capacity, is also the only 'fully integrated' producer by virtue of its 108 MW coal-based power plant and captive chrome ore mines.

It had also received the Star Performer Award instituted by the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC)for outstanding export performance.

Stage set for Children's Science Congress

Gangtok, Dec 26 (UNI) The stage is all set for the five-day-long 14th Children National Science Congress beginning at the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology Majitar near here tomorrow. President A P J Abdul Kalam is scheduled to inaugurate the science Congress at 1115 hrs. Colourful posters and flags welcoming the President had been put all around the SMIT campus and some strategic points. Elaborate security arrangement had also been made. Hosted by Sikkim State.....

Karnataka shot out for 111

Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, Dec 26 (UNI) Andhra were in the driver's seat, dismissing Karnataka for a paltry 111 in their first innings in the Ranji Trophy elite Group-A match being played here today. Andhra were 62 without loss in 34 overs at the draw of stumps on day two, taking their lead to 189 runs with 10 wickets in hand. JERUSALEM, Dec 26 (Reuters) Israelis are puzzling over the prospect of peace with Syria after their two foreign intelligence agencies gave dramatically different assessments of recent diplomatic overtures from Damascus. While the Mossad spy service said Syrian President Bashar Assad had no genuine interest in peace talks, Israel's Military Intelligence said it believed Assad was ready to negotiate if this leads to the return of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Assad has repeatedly signalled an interest.....
