Havells to raise $150mln

New Delhi, Dec 26 (UNI) Electrical products manufacturing company Havells India Ltd today said it will raise 150 million dollars through Qualified Institutional Placement, Foreign Currency Convertible Bonds (FCCB), American Depository Receipts (ADRs) and Global Depository Receipts (GDRs) issue.

The Board of Directors (BoD) of the company has approved the fund raising besides increasing the borrowing limits and authorised share capital to Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 40 crore respectively.

The BoD also approved to call for an Extra Ordinary General Meeting on January 20, 2007.

50 vocational teachers held

Chennai, Dec 26 (UNI) About 50 teachers, including six women belonging to Tamil Nadu Unrecognised Vocational Teachers Association were taken into custody by the police today. They were held when they attempted to commence an indefinite fast without police permission before the Directorate of School Education here. The teachers were demanding among other things, fixation of basic pay for them, police said. UNI RV ROY 1336.....

Govt denies report on Indo-Pak 'secret' parleys

New Delhi, Dec 26: The government today strongly denied a media report describing as ''factually incorrect'' that Indian and Pakistani officials had met in Lahore to discuss President Pervez Musharraf's four-point proposals on Jammu and Kashmir and the Siachen issue.''The report is factually incorrect,'' External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said in response to a question. Reports in a section of the media today said India's envoy S K Lambah had held 'back-channel' talks with his Pakistani counterpart.....

Airlines suffer losses despite heavy passenger traffic

New Delhi, Dec 26 (UNI) A booming economy led to red-hot growth in air transport sector during 2006 as the government managed to privatise Delhi and Mumbai airports despite dogmatic Leftists. The growth was underpinned by increased seat capacity and price stimulation resulting from increased competition. All airlines -- including Air India (AI) and Indian -- placed orders for 480 new aircraft as expert research projected that domestic passenger traffic will reach 150 to 180.....
