Goa secure first innings lead

Indore, Dec 26 (UNI) Bundling out hosts Madhya Pradesh for 205, Goa secured a first innings lead of 18 runs on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Plate Group A match at the Usha Raje Cricket Ground here today.

At stumps, Goa were 67 for the loss of two wickets in their second innings.

The hosts, who resumed at an overnight score of 28 for one, lost batsmen at regular intervals. Amit Paul (31) and Mohnish Mishra (56) added 60 runs -- the best partnership in the innings -- for the second wicket while Murtaza Ali contributed 49.

For Goa, Robin D'Souza and Sahil Dhuri claimed three wickets each while Anil Naik took two and S Bandekar scalped one.

When Goa began their second essay, Sanjay Pandey and T Sudheendra took a wicket each. At stumps, S Asnodkar (11) and Dhuri (12) were at the crease.

Futures inch up, oil's rise may boost energy stocks

Oil rises to near $63, Iran bristles at sanctions

LONDON, Dec 26 (Reuters) Oil rose to around $63 a barrel on Tuesday after Iran warned it could use its oil exports as a weapon following the UN Security Council's decision to impose sanctions on its trade in nuclear goods. News Abu Dhabi was set to be the first to implement a new round of OPEC supply cuts added to the gains that followed two days of losses. U.S. crude climbed 54 cents to $62.95 a barrel.....

ASHGABAT, Dec 26 (Reuters) Turkmenistan's top legislative body decided today to hold polls on February 11 to replace authoritarian President Saparmurat Niyazov and launched a slow process of picking new leadership for the Central Asian state. Light earthquake reported in southern Scotland

LONDON, Dec 26 (Reuters) An earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale hit Scotland today, the largest tremor in Britain this year, the British Geological Survey (BGS) said. Police said hundreds of residents in the Dumfries and Galloway area of southern Scotland reported a tremor that shook houses around 1610 IST. ''This was a significant earthquake,'' said Bennett Simpson, a seismologist with the BGS in Edinburgh. ''We have taken a number of calls from people in.....
