CPI to lay seige to all power sub-stations in AP

Hyderabad, Dec 26 (UNI) Communist Party of India (CPI) Andhra Pradesh Secretary K Narayana today said the party would lay seige to all power sub-stations in the state and Vidyut Soudha in the city, demanding the Government to supply uninterrupted nine hour power to agriculture sector.

Speaking at the 81 CPI foundation day celebrations organised at the state party office here, Mr Narayana said the CPI would continue the struggle with the support of farmers in the state. The Government had failed to provide quality power to farmers during the rabi season, he alleged.

Referring to the recent Government initiative in acquiring all assigned lands owned by the rich, Mr Narayana demanded the Government tp distribute all assigned lands to the poor. Otherwise, the party would occupy the lands by hoisting red flags and distribute them to all eligible, he added.

Agitated engineers call off six-day strike

Ranchi, Dec 26 (UNI) The six-day-long engineers' strike in Jharkhand was called off today after the Water Resources Minister and departmental secretary apologised for the alleged misbehaviour following which the agitation started. President of Jharkhand Engineering Services Association Suresh Prasad Sinha here said the decision was taken after the minister and the departmental secretary apologised, adding that the engineers would join their offices tommorrw. Protesting farmers lathicharged in Punjab

Tarn Taran, Dec 26 (UNI) As many as 30 persons, including policemen, were injured in police lathicharge on farmers, agitating against setting up of SEZ, on the Amritsar-Tarn Taran highway near Chabba village today. The police canecharged the farmers and even lobbed teargas shells to control the protestors, who had blocked the highway and turned violent.
