Cong alleges innocents slain in encounter

Jagdalpur, Dec 26 (UNI) The Congress has claimed that two tribal youths -- who hailed from Chhattisgarh's tribal-dominated, naxalism-affected Kanker district and were neutralised in a December 22 encounter at Gadchiroli in neighbouring Maharashtra -- were innocent.

The deceased were identified as Pakhajoor's Sual and Renu, both aged 20.

Former Congress MLA Manturam Pawar led irate villagers who gheraoed the Pakhajur Police station yesterday and a bandh was called in the area today.

''The duo were conveying a television and generator to a village when they were caught by a Chhattisgarh-Maharashtra joint patrol.

The youths were taken across the state border and shot,'' Mr Pawar alleged.

Two LeT militants arrested in Jammu region

Jammu, Dec 26 (UNI) Security forces arrested two militants of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit from Rajouri and Doda districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said here today. While one militant was arrested from the periphery of Doda town this morning, the other was nabbed at Dargai in the border district of Rajouri last evening, senior police officials told UNI. Snow and rain lower temperatures in HP

Dharamshala, Dec 26 (UNI) The cold wave conditions continued to prevail in Himachal Pradesh with the entire tribal belt and other higher reaches experiencing fresh spell of snowfall, while rains lashed the mid and lower areas of the state today, the Met office said. TRS to block national, state highways on Dec 29

Hyderabad, Dec 26 (UNI) Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) senior leader and former Union Minister A Narendra today said the party would block state and national highways on December 29, to press the demand for nine-hour power supply to the agricultural sector in the backward Telangana region.
