Boys outdo girls in class X exams in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 26 (UNI) Boys outshone girls in class X examination conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education, the results of which were declared here today.

Giving details of the result, Directorate of School Education official Mohammad Shafi told UNI that as many as 35,834 students from the Kashmir division had appeared in the class X examination.

Of them, 21,618 were declared successful as the overall pass percentage this year stood at 60.33, he added.

Mr Shafi said this year about 63.44 per cent boys were declared successful as compared to 56.19 per cent girls.

While 12,981 boys passed the examination, the figure stood at 8,637 for gils, he added.

Mr Shafi said as many as 2,488 students secured distinction.

The official said Faizan Jameel Shah of R P School topped the exmanination with 96 per cent marks, Iqra Sayeed of Presentation Convent (Girls) secured the second position with 93.80 per cent and Burhan Ahmed Wani of Iqbal Memorial School got the third position with 93.60 per cent.

Gunmen kidnap trade ministry official in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Dec 26 (Reuters) Gunmen kidnapped a senior Trade Ministry official in Baghdad today after stopping his vehicle on his way to work, a ministry source said. Muhanad Ahmed Saleh, director of the Baghdad International Fair, was abducted by gunmen in two vehicles shortly after he left his home in Amiriya, a Sunni district in western Baghdad.
