Big Indian contingent for Scottish, British Jr Opens

Chennai, Dec 26(UNI)The Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) today announced that India would be fielding a strong contingent of 18 players in the Scottish Junior Oen and the British Junior Open.

In a press release here SRFI said for the Scottish junior Open to be held from tomorrow to December 30,at Edinburgh, the Indian team ould nclude Mahesh Mangaonkar, Rahil Fazebhoy, Rishi Tandon and Shravan Kaul in the Boys Under 13 cateory, Ravi Dixit, Ramit Tandon and Akshay Deepak in the Under 15 ctegory and Cyril Kuhn, Karan Malik, and Suneesh Kaul in the Unde 17 category.

In the girls section Saumya Karki, Aparajitha, Shria Khatri, Anaka alankamony, Sachika Balvani in the Under 13, Ankita Sharma in the Under 15 and Surabhi Misra in the Under 17 age group.

In the British Junior Open to be held at Sheffield from January 2 to 6, India will field Mahesh Mangaonkar, Rishi Tandon, Shravankaul in the Under 13, Aditya Jagtap, Akshay Deepak, Ravi Dixit, Ravi Dixit, Ramit Tandon in the Boys Under 15,Cyril Kuhn, Karan Malik, Sunesh Kaul in the Under 17, Anaka Alankamony, Aparajitha, Sachika Balvan, Saumya Karki and Shria Kathri in the Girls Under 13, Ankita Sharma in the Under 15 category and Dipika Pallikal and Surabhi Misra in the Girls Under 17 section.

Anaka Alankamony won the Girls Under 13 in the Scotish Open while Sachika Balvani and Abhishek Pradhan-U-13, Surabhi Misra -U-17 , had won the titles in the Scottish junior open last year.

Big quakes off Taiwan trigger tsunami alert

TAIPEI, Dec 26 (Reuters) Two major earthquakes struck southern Taiwan today, triggering fears of destructive waves as Asia marked the second anniversary of the Indian Ocean tsunami. The quakes, also felt in Hong Kong and southern China, trapped six people when a building collapsed in Taiwan. No other major damage was reported and the tsunami alert was soon lifted. UN council sets urgent meeting on Somalia conflict

UNITED NATIONS, Dec 26 (Reuters) The UN Security Council scheduled an emergency meeting today on the conflict in Somalia after a week of fighting between Somali Islamists and interim government forces backed by Ethiopia. Baghdad car bomb kills 15, wounds 30

BAGHDAD, Dec 26 (Reuters) A car bomb in the mainly Sunni Arab district of Adhamiya in Baghdad killed 15 people and wounded 30 today, hospital sources said. Earlier today, three simultaneous car bombs exploded in a busy intersection in a predominantly Shi'ite district in southwestern Baghdad, killing at least 14 people and wounding scores, Interior Ministry and police sources said.
