Varanasi, Dec 26 (UNI) Medical services at the Sir Sunderlal Hospital in the Banaras Hindu University (SSU-BHU) here today were affected, following a token strike by junior doctors against the last evening lathicharge of medical students on the central university campus.
''The Outdoor Patients services remained paralysed owing to the strike by resident doctors. The decision to continue the strike further will be taken at the general body meeting (GBM) of the resident doctors,'' Resident Doctors Association-Youth for Equality convenor Kamal Gupta said.
Demanding strict action against the security personnel responsible for lathicharge on the medical students, Dr Gupta said if the BHU administration failed to sack the concerned officials, including Chief Proctor S K Singh shortly, the stir will be intensified.
''Of the eight students wounded, two students Mrityunjai Singh and Arun Tiwari suffered severe injuries and are presently at the ICU,'' Dr Gupta added.
The SSU hospital administration, however, declared the token strike by junior doctors as "partial".
Meanwhile, students at the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS-BHU) boycotted their classes for the eleventh day, besides continuing with the relay hunger strike against 27 per cent OBC reservation in institutions of higher education.
At least eight students protesting OBC reservation were injured when university security personnel lathicharged them near the Vice-Chancellor's residence on the BHU campus last evening.
