Agitated engineers call off six-day strike

Ranchi, Dec 26 (UNI) The six-day-long engineers' strike in Jharkhand was called off today after the Water Resources Minister and departmental secretary apologised for the alleged misbehaviour following which the agitation started.

President of Jharkhand Engineering Services Association Suresh Prasad Sinha here said the decision was taken after the minister and the departmental secretary apologised, adding that the engineers would join their offices tommorrw.

The engineers of different departments had gone on strike on December 20 against the alleged use of filthy language by Water Resources Department secretary Mahavir Prasad.

The matter was also raised in the Assembly during winter session and the opposition had also staged a walkout demanding a clarification by the government on this issue.

Ashutosh upsets Prakash Amritraj in ITF Futures tennis

New Delhi, Dec 26 (UNI) Unseeded Ashutosh Singh and Vivek Shokeen registered upset wins over second seed Prakash Amritraj and eighth seed Vladislav Bondarenko of Ukraine respectively in the rain-marred ITF Men's Futures tennis tournament here today. Ashutosh came from behind to surprise compatriot Amritraj 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 while Shokeen got the better of Bondarenko 6-2, 6-7(8), 6-1 in the first round matches. Orissa declare 552 for seven; S S Das score record triple century

Cuttack, Dec 26 (UNI) Shib Sundar Das sent the record books tumbling today by scoring a career-best triple century (300 not out) against a hapless Jammu and Kashmir on the second day of the their Ranji trophy match at the Barbati Stadium here today.
