170 students take ill after food poisoning in Buldhana

Nagpur, Dec 26 (UNI) As many as 170 children were taken ill after they consumed peppermint sweets and complained of nausea and dizziness in Ganpur village of Buldhana district here today.

While 108 had been admitted to the Rural Hospital at Mehkar, 62 others were discharged after the treatment. However, all of them were stated to be out of danger.

Buldhana Additional Superintendent of Police Sudhir Dabharde told UNI over telephone that the students of the Zilla Parishad school had consumed the peppermint distributed by one of the pupils on his birthday.

The students later complained of dizziness, nausea and vomiting and were immediately admitted to the hospital, he added.

Dr P S Zavar, Medical Officer at the Mehkar Rural Hospital, said 62 students had been discharged after they were treated in the outpatient department (OPD) while 108 others would be under observation for the next 24 hrs.

About 50 handicapped people arrested during demonstration

Jamshedpur, Dec 26 (UNI) About 50 physically challenged people, including the President of National Handicapped Party, were arrested when they resorted to 'hooliganism' in front of the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner's office during a demonstration here today.
