Youth Congress gherao Orissa Police station

Jharsugura, Dec 25 (UNI) Hundreds of Youth Congress activists today gheraoed the Jharsuguda police station demanding removal of outside contractors from Vedanta Company for misbehaving with local labourers.

The labourers had alleged that the Manager of the Manisha and Anand Earth movers and his associates confined them in a room and misbehaved with them. This led to wide spread resentment among the Congress activists in the town.

Youth Congress activists gheraoed Jharsuguda police station, protesting police action and demanding stringent action against the company.

They later withdrew the agitation after the police assured them to take action after proper enquiry into the allegation.

Christmas celebrated with fervour in Meghalaya

Shillong, Dec 25 (UNI) Christmas was celebrated with religious fervour and enthusiasm across Meghalaya. Midnight Mass was held at several big and small churches across the state, including the Mary Help of Christian Cathedral and Church of North India. Today, morning Mass was also conducted in all the churches to mark the occasion. Shillong Archdiocese Archbishop Dominic Jala led the congregation in a Christmas midnight Mass at the Mary Help of Christian cathedral here......

Two militants gunned down by troops

Imphal, Dec 25 (UNI) Two militants were shot dead by troops when they were trying to enter Indian territory from Myanmar. The PRO of Assam Rifles today said troops of 24 Assam Rifles shot dead two cadres of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) when they were trying to infiltrate into Indian territory at Govajang last evening. Alert troops came across two persons moving in a suspicious manner. On being challenged by the troops, they opened fire.....

Christmas celebrated in Manipur

Imphal, Dec 25 (UNI) Christmas is beiong celebrated throughout Manipur with gaiety and happiness. Stars bedecked with lights were seen almost everywhere and Christmas carols could be heard throughout the day.
