WB to grant Rs 5,000 cr to Punjab for rural facilities

Patiala, Dec 25 (UNI) The Punjab Government will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Bank tomorrow at New Delhi for obtaining a loan of Rs 5,000 crore, to be spent for improving facilities in the rural areas of the state.

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh flew to New Delhi this evening for the MoU signing ceremony.

Before leaving for the national capital, Capt Singh told mediapersons here that the state government had been pursuing this case with the World Bank for the last four and half years and had ultimately succeeded in getting this loan.

Out of the total amount, Rs 3,000 crore would be spent for the construction of rural roads and the remaining, for schemes to provide potable drinking water in the villages.

Traditional fervour marks Christmas celebrations

New Delhi, Dec 25 (UNI) Traditional fervour and gaiety mark the celebration of Christmas today, the birthday of Lord Jesus Christ.
