Nitish rules out change in NDA leadership

Patna, Dec 25 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today ruled out any change in the NDA leadership, saying former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee would continue as the leader of the alliance.

''No vacancy exists for the post of the NDA leader,'' Mr Kumar said and refused to suggest any substitute for Mr Vajpayee.

Asked about his party's approach towards the BJP's resolve to revert to Ram Mandir issue, Mr Kumar said the JD(U) was not a party to it.

He, however, clarified the BJP was free to adopt its own policy, including the controversial issue of Ram Mandir construction at the disputed site in Ayodhya.

Mizoram ruling party accuses opposition of misinterpreting judgement

Aizawl, Dec 25 (UNI) The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) has accused the congress led opposition of misinterpreting the judgement of defamation, which had acquitted Congress MLA R Lalzirliana. MNF statement here today said, ''The judgement never mentioned that MNF government had paid ransom money to insurgents, it only said MLA Lalzirliana's statement was an exception for defamation.'' The MNF government had filed a complaint against Lalzirliana at the court of additional district magistrate.....

Patil pays floral tributes to Madan Mohan Malviya

New Delhi, Dec 25 (UNI) Home Minister Shivraj Patil today paid floral tributes at the portrait of freedom fighter and social reformer Madan Mohan Malviya on his 145th birth anniversary in the Central Hall of Parliament. A brochure containing the profile of Madan Mohan Malviya brought out by the Lok Sabha Secretariat was also released on the occasion. V P Singh demands Muslim reservation

Lucknow, Dec 25 (UNI) Hitting out at the previous governments at the Centre for being non-serious about the minorities, issues, the former prime minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh today asked Congress and the state governments to give eight per cent reservation to Muslims as per the Mandal Commission recommendations. The Mandal Commission recommendations were implemented 16 years back and since then, no government at the Centre and the states had ensured Muslim reservation, he said.....
