Mobile exhibitions on power to educate people on energy conservation

New Delhi, Dec 25 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said the state Government would organise mobile exhibitions across the city to educate people on ways to conserve energy and inform them about the benefit of power reforms in Delhi during the past six years.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of an exhibition on showcasing the Delhi power sector, the Chief Minister said the power sector in Delhi had come a long way since its privatisation five years ago, when seven companies were created out of the erstwhile Delhi Vidyut Board - three distribution companies, two generation companies, one transmission company and one holding company.

''The exhibition proves beyond doubt that the power sector has come a long way and is today vibrant and self sustainable,'' the Chief Minister said.

In this context, she said that over the past five years, power thefts had been brought down from 58 per cent to 33 per cent, with the result that the A T and C losses have reduced from over 50 per cent in 2002 to 35 per cent in 2006 and are to be further brought down to below 18 per cent over the next 2-3 years.

This, she said had been acclaimed at various national and international levels - Delhi was ranked first, third and third in the years 2003-04, 2004-05 and 2005-06 among the states in the 'power sector rating' report by ICRA and Crisil; Economic Survey 2005 also praised Delhi power sector reforms.

The Chief Minister said Delhi was on its way to become a power surplus state as it would have about 8000 MW power supply at its disposal by the year 2010 when Delhi would be hosting the Commonwealth games.
