Metal prices ease

Mumbai, Dec 25 (UNI) Select metal prices today eased due to lack of fresh demand, traders at the Bombay Metal Exchange said.

In the ferrous category, brass utensils lowered by Rs 100 per quintal on increased offers by stockists. But copper heavy went up by Rs 100 per quintal on good demand.

In the non-ferrous segment, zinc slab fell by Rs 100 per quintal on sustained heavy selling, while tin slab shed Rs five per kg.

Following are the spot metal prices per quintal: Ferrous metals: Copper heavy - Rs 33,500, copper utensils - Rs 30,500, brass utensils - Rs 22,700, brass cuttings - Rs 25,500 and aluminium utensils - Rs 10,900.

Non-ferrous metals: Copper wire bars - Rs 36,000, aluminium ingots - Rs 14,200, zinc slab - Rs 23,000, lead ingots - Rs 7,800, tin slab - Rs 595 (per kg) and nickel cathode - Rs 1,730 (per kg).

Mumbai, Dec 25 (UNI) Both the Precious metals further edged up on fresh demand with Silver gaining by Rs 30 per kg and Gold by Rs 25 per ten gm on the Bombay Bullion Exchange today. Silver fineness opened high at Rs 19,180 per kg on moderate demand. Later, it slightly improved and closed at Rs 19,190 per kg with a gain of Rs 30 per kg from Saturday's close. New Delhi, Dec 24 (UNI) Inspite of the government's claims to take pre-emptive action to contain rising prices, the annual inflation rate rose to 5.32 per cent for the week ended December 9 from 5.16 per cent the previous week due to an increase in food prices. The inflation rate calculated on a point-to-point basis, stood at 4.39 per cent during the corresponding week of the previous year, according to official figures released here......
