Man beheads neighbour's wife; surrenders before police

Sambalpur, Dec 25 (UNI) A daily labourer under the influence of liquor today beheaded his neighbour's wife Tapaswini Singhdeo today and surrendered before police with the severed head and the axe.

Police said one Ghasiram Majhi (50), residing in Kanijuri at the outskirts of Sambalpur town, did not flee after committing the ghastly crime and proceeded to the Town police station to confess his crime.

Hundreds of people panicked at such an unseen scene in Sambalpur town. However, the police arrested Ghasiram at Cheruapara and went to the place of incident for further investigation.

According to the locals, Ghasiram and the deceased Tapaswini's husband Uttam Singhdeo, a driver, were good friends. But Tapaswini always suspected her husband having illicit relation with Ghasiram's wife Jaladei Majhi.

She also often quarreled with Ghasiram and his wife in this regard. When Tapaswini did so today, Ghasiram unable to tolerate the blame on his wife attacked Tapaswini with an axe and killed her brutally.

Police had registered a case under section 302 of the IPC and arrested Ghasiram.

5 members of drug and rob gang arrested

Lucknow, Dec 25 (UNI) Five members of the drug and rob (Zeherkhurani) gang, including their kingpin, were arrested in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh early today. A large number of sedatives were recovered from their possession. Police said acting on a tip-off, cops reached the Gorakhpur Railway Station and nabbed the miscreants, identified as gang head Ram Naresh Maurya, Safikul Hassan, Aftab Alam, Shibban Gupta and Prabhu Dayal Chauhan. Posing as college students, the miscreants used.....

Police arrest accused in Neeraj murder case

Allahabad, Dec 25 (UNI) Police today arrested Natthu Kol, who was allegedly involved in the kidnapping and murder of city's prominent businessman Neeraj Agrawal. The accused was carrying an award of Rs 5000 on his head. One 315 bore country made pistol, two live cartridges, Neeraj's watch and Rs 12,240, was recovered from him. Neeraj, an engineering graduate involved in road construction business here, was abducted on November 11 from the district's Ghoorpur area......

HC stays removal of MDMK office-bearers

Chennai, Dec 25 (UNI) Madras High Court has stayed operation of an MDMK resolution seeking to remove Party Presidium Chairman L Ganesan and Deputy General Secretary Gingee N Ramachandran from their posts. The interim order was passed late last night by Justice P Jyothimani in his house on a petition moved by an MDMK functionary. Mr Ganesan and Mr Ramachandran were stripped of their posts following a resolution passed at the meeting of party district.....
