Junior doctors call off strike in Bihar

Patna, Dec 25 (UNI) Junior doctors of Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) called off their strike tonight following assurance from government to strenghten security network for them and ensure effective steps to prevent violent attacks from relatives of patients in the event of deaths in the hospital.

The government agreed to deploy a contingent of 75 homeguards on security duty of PMCH and dismissed 11 security guards who allegedly failed to prevent attacks on the doctors by anguished relatives of an indoor patient who died during treatment yesterday.

Several rounds of talks between the representatives of junior doctors who were on a wildcat strike since yesterday night and government culminated in the decision of the medicos to resume duty.

Qatar Airways to start services on Chennai, Ahmedabad routes

Dubai, Dec 25 (UNI) Qatar Airways will add two more new destinations in India -- Chennai and Ahmedabad -- from April next year besides increasing frequencies to Kochi and Hyderabad and capacity to Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram. Chief Executive Officer Akbar al-Baker unveiled the airline's Indian expansion plan yesterday indicating that the number of Indian destinations would go up to seven. India forms a parallel regional trading bloc

Islamabad, Dec 25 (UNI) India has created a regional trading bloc excluding Pakistan, local media reported today. The News quoted a senior government official as saying here that after Pakistan denied India equal treatment in trade under the South Asia Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA), India managed to create another regional trading bloc in South Asia comprising Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Traditional fervour marks Christmas celebrations

New Delhi, Dec 25 (UNI) Traditional fervour and gaiety mark the celebration of Christmas today, the birthday of Lord Jesus Christ. The celebrations began with midnight mass and prayers at various churches in the Capital, where large number of worshippers gathered. Hundreds of Christians thronged the Sacred Heart Cathedral and the Gole Dak Khana Church in the heart of the capital at midnight for prayers and church.
