International Kite Festival in Gujarat from Jan 13-15

Anand, Dec 25 (UNI) Over 70 kiteflyers from across the country and abroad will participate in an International Kite Festival to be held from January 13 to 15 at Petlad, about 20 km from here.

Gujarat Minister of State for Tourism C D Patel said the International Kite Festival will be held during the Vibrant Gujarat celebrations that begin from January 12.

He said the festival has given a boost to the kite industry.

''Only five years back, the turnover of the industry was Rs 23 crore but it was Rs 100 crore last year. In the next five years, it is expected to increase to Rs 500 crore.'' He said the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit will be held in Ahmedabad on January 12 and 13, in which 249 industrialists and 750 investors from 66 countries will take part.

50-hour-long operation ends in Kashmir, two killed in Jammu

Srinagar, Dec 25 (UNI) A 50-hour-long operation in North Kashmir ended today after both the holed up militants of Pakistan based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed. An army Colonel was killed and three other soldiers were wounded in the encounter. Elsewhere in the state two persons were killed while security forces unearthed a hideout and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition overnight. A defence ministry spokesman told UNI there was no firing when the troops.....

NRI Sikh outfits threaten to take Dhaddi's case to UN

Jalandhar, Dec 25 (UNI) Representatives of the UK based Sikh outfits -- Punja Sahib Gurdham Yatra Committee, Nankana Sahib Yatra Committee and Guru Nanak Sahara Trust -- have alleged that the Punjab Police has implicated UK based NRI Paramjit Singh Dhaddi in a fabricated case and threatened to take his case to the United Nations Organisation(UNO). Pre-marital HIV test for UAE expats soon

Dubai, Dec 26: Expatriates living in the UAE may soon have to undergo compulsory pre-nuptial medical tests before getting married. A top health official at the Ministry of Health (MoH) said in Abu Dhabi that the ministry has prepared a draft bill to make it compulsory for both nationals and expatriates to go through pre-nuptial tests. At present, it is mandatory only for nationals to undergo the tests for HIV/Aids, hepatitis B and sexually transmitted diseases,.....
