Indian man honoured for act of bravery

Dubai, Dec 25 (UNI) A 47-year old Indian from Kerala has been honoured for his act of bravery after he rescued five people from a sinking vessel that killed 55 people, including 21 Indians, in the worst such tragedy in Bahrain.

Nanu Raju rescued the survivors and used a mobile phone to call emergency when the vessel with 150 people on board capsized on March 30.

Raju, described as the "Al Dana dhow hero", described for the first time yesterday how he had miraculously dragged the survivors to safety.

The father of two children spoke at a ceremony held here to commend his bravery by the Art of Living Foundation in Manama.

The owner and captain of the vessel have been charged. The case is being heard in the Lower Criminal Court.

LTTE releases Jordanian ship crew to ICRC

Colombo, Dec 25 (UNI) The crew of a wrecked Jordanian merchant vessel, which lost its way in the Indian Ocean and ran aground near the rebel-held Mullaitivu coast on Saturday night, has been released to the ICRC to help them return home, the rebel and military sources said today. ''We have released the Ship captain and his 24 crew to the ICRC this morning in Kilinochchi. They are on their way to Colombo,'' LTTE's media.....

Satyam posts 70% revenue growth in West Asia

Dubai, Dec 25 (UNI) IT major Satyam Computer Services has reported a 70 per cent year-on-year revenue growth in West Asia, Company's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Rama Raju said. Mr Raju added that ''Satyam is setting up its first global development centre in the region, a 300-seat facility in Egypt, which will be a major technological and software development resource to better serve West Asia customers and improve local standards of IT fluency.''.....

UN sanctions not to affect Pakistan-Iran ties

Islamabad, Dec 25 (UNI) Pakistan has said the UN Security Council resolution slapping sanctions on Iran will not affect economic ties between the two countries. Dawn newspaper quoted Pakistan foreign ministry spokeswoman Tasneem Aslam as saying here, the resolution will have no impact on Iran-Pakistan economic relations because ''we do not have any transactions with Iran in the nuclear sector.''
